Weekly Update: ParJar Swap private beta, Fantom Opera Network Special-fee Contract, SelfKey + ThreeFold, Open Staking live on Harmony…– 15 May - 21 May'20
Hey Parachuters! Seems like ages since I last posted a weekly update, right? Unfortunately, got super busy with IRL work and couldn’t keep up. But fret not! I finally scraped some time out today to get upto speed with all the news from the Parachute universe in May and June and organised them into a series of weekly updates like the ones I used to write earlier. But instead of posting them one by one everyday, thought it might be best to release them all at one go. So here's Part I of VI - All that happened at Parachute + partners from 15 May - 21 May'20:

The ParJar swap feature beta testing started this week with a call to testers far and wide. Click here for the latest update and stats on ParJar straight from Cap's mouth - "...it took almost two years of betas and growth to reach 1 million tips (March 7th) nd it’s taken 2 months to to add another 400k..". Heyo! Continuing with our six-part catch up series to get up to date on the May and June news from Parachute and partners, here’s Part II of VI (22 May - 28 May'20):

If you're in crypto, there's often the random pump/moon/wenBinance talk that props up from time to time in groups. Especially, when someone new joins a project and is unfamiliar with the community culture. At Parachute, we have always made it a point to have more meaningful discussions than price. Cap shared some of his thoughts on this as well. For the #culturalweekend prompt this week, Jason got Parachuters to share about “something weird your family does that is a tradition for them but not a traditional tradition”. Peace Love’s Big Trivia in TTR was quite fun as always. The beta testing group for ParJar swaps was set up this week. Also, Chris organised something amazing this week which will possibly remain a secret amongst Parachute admins (and Doc Vic 😊 ). But if word of it ever goes out, you’ll realise why Parachute is the most wholesome project in all of crypto. Chris also gave out some cool $PAR to folks in the Parachute channel to talk about "something that you didn't spend much money on that had a big impact on your quality of life". This week's Two-for-Tuesday featured music from "female artists, including bands with at least one female member". Click here for the playlist. Thanks Sebastian!

Cryptomarketing in 2020: successful application of strategies from MLM and the beauty industry

Cryptomarketing in 2020: successful application of strategies from MLM and the beauty industry

Cryptomarketing in 2020: successful application of strategies from MLM and the beauty industry
Over the past decade, the crypto-industry has proven to be a unique industry with a specific audience, which requires a no less specific approach. In this regard, in 2020, the advertising activity of crypto companies is significantly different from that to which banks and various financial companies resort. Industry leaders prefer not to rely on traditional online advertising on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. They follow a different path: they work with bloggers (opinion leaders and influencers), rely on MLM marketing referral programs and actively organize various contests and sweepstakes with generous prize pools. The CoinDesk portal claims that crypto marketing this year is strikingly reminiscent of marketing in the beauty industry, and here it is no less effective.

General concept

Michelle Fan, a blogger with a million YouTube subscribers, is using the same techniques to spread skin care life hacks and the idea of financial freedom through bitcoins. Moreover, she assures that the leaders of the crypto industry, like her, use marketing schemes from the beauty industry, even if they themselves do not know about it.
Both areas prefer to use the DTC (Direct to Customer) business scheme, independently creating and then promoting and selling goods / services, working as closely as possible with the community. Sales are built through aggregated retail platforms like Amazon, Etsy and Shopify, or even through accounts in popular social networks.
Industry leaders in developing countries often resort to the latter option, where large sites like Amazon simply don’t work or aren’t popular. For example, Michelle Haber, a bitcoin maximalist from Libya, made it clear in CoinDesk’s comment that social networks and chats are today the most effective way to distribute goods / services in crypto topics. He said that local traders in order to “educate” the audience help buy hardware wallets, selling them through groups on social networks. Buying yourself Trezor or Ledger in another way is often simply impossible.

Work with opinion leaders

Michelle Fan is not the only person from the crypto-community who notices the similarities with the beauty industry. So, Maria Paula Fernandez, who actively uses the services of the DeFi sector and is seriously interested in the topic of skin care, gave the CoinDesk portal a similar comment.
She notes that in both cases, society has become accustomed to relying on the opinion of society itself, rather than trusting the views of the world’s leading media. Therefore, in both sectors, the so-called influencers are very popular — opinion leaders and bloggers who disseminate information among their audience on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and other social networks, receiving a reward for this.
Crypto-companies very often, like firms from the beauty industry, provide their products to opinion leaders for review and further “instruction” of their subscribers. Maria Paula Fernandez does not see anything shameful in this. Observing the experience of bloggers, subscribers begin to acquire a kind of crypto-education and disseminate the information through the word of mouth. Thus, the crypto-community grows.
The most successful bloggers over time can count on sponsorship from one or another crypto company.
For example, the podcaster Marty Bent, whose show is now funded by Unchained Capital and Square, the developer of Cash App, witnessed this scenario. The latter, by the way, in addition to Bent sponsor also podcast Joe Rogan and rapper Lil B.
Many other large companies, including the Kraken exchange, have resorted to this strategy. They are just as interested in sponsoring reputable content creators who promote products among loyal subscribers. The U.S. exchange sponsors the Reckless VR crypto start-up, founded by Udi Wertheimer for crypto-conferences in virtual reality, and the famous podcast Peter McCormack, who launched his own media brand Defiance last year. Having started his career as a hobby, McCormack turned it into a business of his life, thanks to which he earned about $1 million for 2019.
With all this, working with bloggers is a great opportunity to enter foreign markets. This is understood at Crypto.com, where they use opinion leaders to attract the Russian-speaking and Turkish-speaking community. Does this approach give a result? Judge for yourself: over the past six months, the number of startup users has doubled and currently stands at more than 2 million people.

Referral Bonuses and MLM Marketing

The development of products within the community often turns into MLM marketing strategies, which require the presence of referral bonuses and bonuses “in depth” — favorite schemes of cosmetic brands. They use a multi-level reward system for attracting partners, where you can usually get a bonus not only for personally invited, but also for “friends of friends and their friends”. Thus, opinion leaders who distribute crypto products often receive a portion of the funds that people invited by them will pay for the product / service.
The relevance and effectiveness of the trend is confirmed by the fact that these methods are not shy to use not only crypto start-ups, but also top cryptocurrency companies, widely known throughout the industry. A prime example is SatoshiLabs, a company that manufactures and distributes Trezor wallets. The head of communications, Iva Fizerova, confirmed that she is actively resorting to “affiliate marketing” with bloggers as an alternative to paying them for direct advertising.
No less vivid examples are the largest crypto exchanges Binance and Gemini, which managed to succeed not without the help of referral systems copied from the multi-level marketing campaigns Avon and Mary Kay, which they have been using for decades.
Instagram blogger Chjango Unchained has been earning good bonuses for several months running after posting a referral link to Gemini on her profile. When her subscribers register on the exchange and buy cryptocurrencies worth more than $100, she receives $10 in BTC. According to her, she is doing a good deed. The blogger wants people who are interested in her opinion on digital money to start their crypto path on Gemini, and not, for example, on Coinbase, because the latter charges “crazy commissions”.
Referral system bonuses are a typical phenomenon for many crypto companies, and successful bloggers are happy to use this. A prime example is Michael Gu, known by the pseudonym Boxmining. It has been distributing information about digital money since 2012, having gathered an audience of more than 200,000 subscribers on YouTube and more than 3,500 participants in Telegram chat during this time.
Despite the fact that the manufacturer of hardware wallets Ledger does not sponsor its activities, it places referral links in the video descriptions and collects voluntary donations from subscribers. As you might guess, he feels rather well. At the same time, he emphasized that user activity during the coronavirus pandemic is only growing, especially after YouTube began to put sticks in the wheels of the creators of crypto-content.

Gifts, contests and sweepstakes

Making a small gift is a great way to introduce an audience to a new product. In the cryptocurrency market, this has long been relevant.
Coin creators eagerly carry out airdrops and bounty campaigns, allowing the crypto community to test the new coin. A similar approach is popular in the beauty industry. Samplers of perfumes and branded magazines with smells have led many girls to buy full-fledged versions of the fragrance.
In addition to the cryptocurrency developers themselves, a similar approach is also used by cryptocompanies of a different direction, which cannot conduct airdrops due to their technical features (for example, this is true for manufacturers of hardware wallets). Therefore, they organize more classic contests and sweepstakes. For example, they play a wallet for reposting on social networks or videos published on YouTube.
It is noteworthy that cryptobrands in this area are even more active than cosmetics manufacturers. They work not only with trusted bloggers with many subscribers, but also help to become less “untwisted” users. Therefore, they periodically assist them in organizing draws in order to attract subscribers who could potentially become new customers.
Iva Fizerova from SatoshiLabs confirmed that Trezor manufacturers periodically help users attract new followers through the distribution of gifts. Moreover, this approach brings excellent results. By working with the community this way, they have managed to sell hundreds of thousands of wallets. But most importantly, a reputation of the brand has formed around the product, warmly received by the audience. And this effect is so strong that the company simply does not see the point in spending money on traditional expensive advertising.
Most importantly, despite all the problems of 2020, including the coronavirus pandemic, which seriously hit the global economy and, accordingly, people’s wallets, demand for products did not fall. This approach remains effective, while the percentage of successful conversions in traditional advertising has probably decreased. Fizerova noted that over the past three months they have recorded a steady increase in demand for goods. Moreover, they even had to solve delivery problems, if only the buyers got the desired devices in a timely manner.
A similar approach and results are observed with other manufacturers of hardware wallets. Thus, Rodolfo Novak, co-founder of Coinkite, confirmed the growth in demand for products, despite the pandemic. Working with the community is their main marketing strategy, because it really gives results. Over the past three years, they donated about 50 wallets to YouTube reviewers. Novak is proud that their “users help other users.” According to him, this approach allows you to sell products at a lower price, since the cost of goods does not include high costs for familiar marketing campaigns.

Are marketing strategies effective? More than

The cryptocurrency market relies on marketing strategies that have established themselves in the beauty industry, which in the new field are no less effective. Maximum performance is achieved with a killer combination of all three of the above methods. It’s about when the founders of cryptocompanies themselves become opinion leaders. Just look at Changpen Zhao, the head of Binance, or Justin Sun, the project manager of TRON. Both entrepreneurs are bloggers with a huge army of subscribers and are personally engaged in the promotion of their brands, regularly rewarding their audience with pleasant gifts.
It’s easy to guess why industry leaders rely mainly on this type of marketing. Advertising products in the traditional way is expensive, especially for startups, behind which there are still no attractive products with a good reputation. But more importantly, crypto products are quite complex in themselves, so they often need detailed explanations, which are difficult to implement in the framework of traditional advertising. Agree that selling a bottle of Fanta with a new taste is much easier than a hardware cryptocurrency wallet, especially since most people don’t understand what it is.
On top of that, regular advertising is complicated by the fact that media giants regularly block crypto content.
In such a situation, marketing borrowed from the beauty industry seems to be the most acceptable and most effective option. By focusing their marketing budgets on opinion leaders and working with the community, cryptocompanies achieve the desired result, even taking into account the coronavirus pandemic. The crypto community is getting bigger and stronger every day. But the best part is that this growth cannot be stopped.

Weekly Update: Parachute Townhall, Welcome $GET to ParJar, Uptrennd reaches 50k members, Fantom on IncognitoChain... – 6 Dec - 12 Dec'19
Hi Parachuters! As part of 2 of 3 from today's rapid catch up series of pending updates, here’s your week at Parachute + partners (6 Dec - 12 Dec'19):

As mentioned last week, Cap and Ice hosted a townhall to talk about where we are at and where we are heading along with ample feedback and Q&A from the community. We covered a lot of ground: "value hypothesis for ParJar, Product Market fit, and our growth approach for 2020...performance of two key PAR utility metrics, staking and gas, and how we see growth for each in 2020...questions from the community and reviewed upcoming community initiatives". Click here to catch up on all that happened. GET Protocol’s $GET token was added to ParJar this week. Belated Birthday wishes to Doc Vic from Cuba. Jason lost a 5k $PAR wager with Cap on Victor’s age. Haha. Congratulations to Martha for winning this week’s Parena. As per the latest Fantasy Premier League (#FPL) update shared by LordHades this week, he is still ruling the charts at the top with NovelCloud and Alexis hot on his heels. From next week, "You can now view your first opponent in the 2019/20 FPL Cup on the My Team page - under Leagues". While you slay those miles with the Parachute Running Club (which has done 44 miles so far BTW), here’s a podcast to listen to. Cap’s recommendation: "It's geared towards people building products - but super super useful to think about any products you use. Skip to like 9 minutes in to skip through all the advertiesments ". Yes, I know. Cap wouldn’t be Cap without typos. Typos FTW!
Parachute townhall
Parachute-themed shirts designed by Doc Vic and Alejandro on Doc’s birthday. These are sick!
If you want to see yourself on the Parachute world map, make sure to enter your location here. The entries are anonymous. In this week's Parachute Fantasy Football League update, Hang is in the first position followed by Clinton and Andy. Connor made it to the playoffs and is now in 4th position. So it means farewell to Nilz, Ken, Kamo and Cap from this season. CoD mobile players, don't forget to join the Parachute WarZone hosted by Doc Vic from Cuba. I hear there's $PAR and $AMGO to be won! The TTR Hat Contest ended this week with some solid entries running in the lead. Epic creation Wendell! In this week’s creative prompt by Jason, Parachuters had to “do 3 nice things for a total stranger”. Basically, be a true blue Parachuter 😊. For this week's Two-for-Tuesday, Gian made it free-for-all. No theme. Post music as you wish and win 500 $PAR. Cool! Benjamin and Charlotte hosted trivias in TTR this week. Those were loads of fun! Andy announced the start of a College Football Bowl Game Pickem contest in Parachute. 100k $PAR prize pool. Doc Vic hosted another round of Champions League wager this week in TTR.
So much epicness in one picture. Jose, you are a genius!
Andy's Advent Calendar journey continues
Catch up on the latest aXpire update and 20k AXPR burn here and here respectively. As you would already know, instead of pitting both startups against each other, XIO decided to accept both Opacity and Uptrennd into the incubator program and opened up staking for them. This marks the official launch of the XIO Blockchain Incubator and it’s been a roaring start with USD 7k worth of tokens locked up in one hour and Opacity portal getting oversubscribed in no time. Video instructions for staking can be found here. Read up on the startups here. In three days, the total staking crossed 1M XIO levels. Insane! That is a great metric to measure performance. How does the $XIO token play a role in all this? The crew explained in this tweet thread. And with that a series of related discussions got off starting with the possibility of self-nomination for startups. Have a sub-100 CMC project that you think should be part of the incubator? Don’t forget to tag them. Plus, a cool 25k $XIO giveaway was launched. Remember, meaningful conversation is always welcome at the incubator and more often than not, they get rewarded. Check out the latest update on the Birdchain App SMS feature along with an expanded list of supported countries. Silent Notary reduced the $LAW token requirement for running a Masternode from 100M to 20M this week. Russian research company sudexpa.ru also gave its vote of confidence to Silent Notary in terms of its immutability. Wibson Marketing Manager Fi Scantamburlo attended the Latin American Bitcoin Conference Uruguay to speak on Data privacy, monetisation and how Wibson helps achieve these. Opacity now allows shared file preview for uploaded docs.
Shared File Preview on Opacity
Fantom's foray into the Afghan Ministry of Health's efforts to fight counterfeit drugs and other public health initiatives were covered by Forbes this week. Last week, we shared that Sikoba's e-voting platform, Itugen, which is based on Fantom’s Lachesis consensus was released. This week, they published its technical whitepaper. With so many moving parts in the project and so much happening all around, a recap is always a welcome refresher to catch up. $FTM got listed on South Korea’s Coinone with a $KRW pairing. It was also integrated with the IncognitoChain project’s pDEX with a $pUSDT pairing (remember, Harmony was added to the same platform a few days back?). IncognitoChain allows cryptos to be transacted privately using sidechains including those coins/tokens which are not privacy-oriented. Fantom also launched a developer portal and technical documentation ahead of the XAR Network mainnet release. The interoperability bridge is out as well. This allows both ERC20 and BEP2 token holders to move their tokens to the XAR Network. The wallet allows both staking and delegation. For the guide to joining XAR Network as a validator node, click here. A simple guide to staking on XAR Network can be found here. The team also sat down for an AMA with COTI this week. Blockchain Magazine’s interview of Michael was published. Continuing with Uptrennd’s 24 Days of Celebrations started last week, this week they hosted an Escape Room contest and Photo contest. The latest $1UP tokenomics update can be seen here. After 11 months, the platform now has 50k users across 177 countries. Wowza! And wicked stats on the engagement metrics as well. Jeff’s interview with Crypto Beadles came out this week.
A few entries for the Uptrennd Photo Contest
Click here and here for the latest District Weekly and Dev Update from District0x. In case you missed this week’s Dapp Digest, you can watch it here. Aragon fans will be in for a treat since it features Aragon Co-Founder Luis Cuende as a special guest. Remember, we had discussed last week that the Shuffle Monster Raffle had crossed a 10k $SHUF pool. Turns out it got to 13k+. Wow! The latest Hydro developer update is a comprehensive roundup from the entire ecosystem. VCC Exchange listed $HYDRO with a $BTC pairing. Hydro’s security tokenisation protocol, Hail, moved to mainnet this week. The team travelled to Boston for MassChallenge Fintech. Hydro will be hosting a Banking-as-a-Service happy hour next week to talk on how they are building solutions in the BaaS space. For starters, don’t forget to read their article on blockchain applications in finance. The team appeared for an AMA with Apache Traders which also featured a 45k $HYDRO giveaway. Digital payments platform VoPay is now partnered with Hydro for end-to-end payment solutions using Hydrogen API and other Hydro tools. Hydro’s smart contract was audited by Callisto and passed their test with flying colours except for one "low severity" issue. The result: "The contract can be deployed". CTO Tim Allard was interviewed by Ethereum Network Nigeria as part of their Ethereum personality chat series. For the latest update on the community explorer Frost, click here. In Pynk’s first guest blog post, community member (or, Pynkster) Alistaire Wallace talks about what the coming year could hold for Pynk and its community of predictors. Sentivate’s new office in PA is shaping up quite well
This week at OST was all about the Pepo app: from angel investor Kartik to Rocket NFT’s Alex Masmej joining the platform, accelerator The Fledge using Pepo Conversations to power community-sourced improvements to businesses, Home for the Holidays Challenge to explain crypto/blockchain to relatives (with a total USD 2k in Pepo coins in prizes) and a “best lifehack” bounty posted by Jason on the app. If you’ve missed all SelfKey news from the past month, you can catch up from the November progress report. Also, did you know that the group Legion of Doom which was once considered to be the most capable hacking group in the world was in a long drawn feud with Masters of Deception in what is now known as the Great Hacker War? Learn more info like this from SelfKey’s latest article on hacking groups. Constellation CEO Ben Jorgensen will be speaking at the Crypto 2020 Summit. If you’re attending, make sure to say Hi. Arena Match announced a trading competition on DDEX with 4M $AMGO tokens to be won. Lucky Bluff Poker will be sponsoring next week’s Arena Match Raffle. The latest Harmony update compilation from the whole team can be found here. In the latest Pangea statistics (Harmony’s experimental staking game to test the limits of its tech), the average staking position is 1.8M $ONE with 75% of participants operate nodes themselves while the rest use delegates. Plus, check out the newest upgrades here. Honest Mining announced mainnet support for the native $ONE token swap. $ONE is also in consideration for listing on Binance US. The token was listed on Pionex this week. The Intellishare website registration and login functions will be down next week for a scheduled upgrade. Also, $INE traders make sure to keep a note of WBFex temporarily disabling the $ETH trading pair. Jobchain’s $JOB token got listed on Bilaxy exchange, P2PB2B exchange, SWFT Blockchain wallet and SWOP.SPACE exchange. The project was also given an A+ score by Xangle. Congrats!

Weekly Update — August 30, 2019

Dear Community,
After another exciting week at Ferrum, with the official listing of FRM on Binance DEX, enormous growth on the Social Mining platform in terms of users and quality content, we now invite you “under the hood” of this past week.
Ferrum Network Business Update
To start off, let’s shed some light on the business/marketing/operations side of Ferrum. Within the cryptocurrency space, a day feels like more than 24 hours and time zones are nonexistent. The constant demand for positive news can be challenging, especially in a down market. Nevertheless we remain focused on achieving our goals.
Exchanges
First, the Binance DEX listing on the 26th of August which means FRM tokens issued as BEP-2 tokens can be traded against BNB. We are proud to have achieved this less than a month after our ICO and foresee positive cooperation with Binance in the future.
Our next goal is to list on a 3rd exchange to truly match the current demand for trading options and liquidity. While the listing is confirmed, we are strategizing about the right moment to announce and list.
Social Mining
This industry can feel like a game of chess at times, make the wrong move and suddenly have an entire army of opponents lined up ready to strike. But make the right move, those opponents can change sides and join your team. All analogies aside, we keep a close ear to what our beloved community is saying and do as much as we can to meet and exceed their expectations.
As we’ve seen immense growth on our Social Mining platform, we are delighted to find that our community has been increasingly supporting us. We are nearing 2000 users on the platform and see the content improving every single day. Given the fact that we have 11 months of Social Mining left (with extension likely), it’s exciting to think of what lies ahead.
Ferrum Network Technical Update
We’d like to provide a technical update on he backend of Ferrum and the products within our ecosystem. In particular, we’ve seen demand for additional utility for the FRM token, and we have listened.
Staking Mechanism Preview
We’ve decided to release the staking mechanism that was originally meant for the UniFyre wallet ahead of schedule. Development that was originally planned to be start mid-September is now being actively worked on and progress has been made. Significantly, we wrote a smart contract with the possibility of flexible staking schemes on top of the Ethereum blockchain.
On the front end of the new staking mechanism, we’ll be releasing a straightforward web-based user interface similar to the Token Bridge so people can easily stake their FRM. Although a full featured staking mechanism will be available within the UniFyre Wallet, we’ve decided to release the staking mechanism early to meet current demand.
Token Bridge is Now Live in Both Directions
In addition, our Token Bridge can now swap BEP-2 tokens to ERC-20 tokens in both directions! This allows users to possess FRM in any form desired. Prefer to trade BNB against FRM on Binance Dex? BEP-2 tokens are your friend and you can swap the ERC-20 tokens as you please. If you prefer to trade on Bitmax.io or want to use your tokens for Social Mining, you can swap to ERC-20 token with ease.
We wanted to develop a token bridge that was easy as filling in a simple form and pressing a few buttons. Since many new projects currently follow the same structure of having multiple token-forms, token bridges will become more and more important. We take pride in creating a user-friendly option that can be customized for any project. As further means for increasing FRM utility, we are now actively exploring the idea of partnering with other projects interested in our token bridge.
Kudi Update
As the first product within the Ferrum Network, Kudi is our foothold on the ground. As most of our activities are focused on creating solid techniques and revolutionizing the way we see the financial system, an actual physical product on the ground is our way of creating real-world use cases for our network and utility for the token. The Kudi team has been working extremely hard ever since the launch of the product. While the product is available for both personal use and commercial use, recently the team has been working to increase awareness of Kudi.
Kudi Events and Partners
One way of creating that awareness is partnering up with the Bogobiri Hotel, where we will be hosting three nights of activities filled with arts, music and activities for the hotel’s guests. At the same time, we’ll be inviting potential customers and clients. Those who’ll use the Kudi Exchange when purchasing their tickets will receive a discount, thereby promoting the actual use of the application. Working with hotels was a conscious decision because Kudi’s features, such as instant money transfers, appeal directly to international travelers.
The presence during events across Nigeria is crucial to stimulating the brands’ awareness and user base. In order to stimulate this growth even more, Kudi has partnered with UNWIND Lagos. UNWIND is focusing on young professionals that are eager to be introduced to new techniques during the many networking events hosted by UNWIND. The true meaning and potential of this partnership has yet to be discovered, but it’s a fact that Kudi will be exposed to many possible clients!
In addition to creating more awareness, the developers have been working on upgrading the Kudi app. A lot will be offered with the new upgrade, including the reduction of fees and an exciting new feature that will truly turn your Kudi app into your own personal bank…
What’s Next for Kudi
The entire month of September is filled with networking events such as the previously mentioned Bogobiri Hotel event, The New Atlantic Trade Fair and a networking event in partnership with the Bombastic Lounge. These are all focused on user growth as we continue to improve the app itself.

In addition, the Kudi update is around the corner, which will offer new features and a new look and feel. The team is actively onboarding new customers every single day, while the product itself is developing and improving every single day.
Conclusion
It has been an extremely productive and exciting week. We are happy see more and more activity within our communities. In the near future we’ll be reaching out to local communities to arrange some AMA’s; we’ll be more active on media like Reddit, 4Chan and Bitcointalk to share Ferrum with each and everyone in this industry. We are building something unique, something worth sharing. We can do the building and sharing, but we can’t do it alone.
Join us today on the road to reach each and every goal we have set for ourselves, to the point where we set new goals and run even harder than we have been already!
Very truly yours,
Ferrum Network Team
P.S. from Ian — I want to thank the author of this update, Freek Caron, the leader of our Dutch community and top Social Miner. I think you’ll agree he did an excellent job!

Diversifying your 2018 investment portfolio with high risk and low risk coins

After months of thorough research I put together the best portfolio in crypto in my opinion. The portfolio is divided into high risk, high return (100x) bets, medium risk medium return (10x) and low risk, low return (3x-10x).
If you want to put $30k into crypto, here is what I recommend to get the best outcome.

1. $10k into high risk high return coins XSPEC, SUMO, ECC, ODN, BNTY, SNOV.

XSPEC and SUMO are 2 are privacy coins that are currently at a tiny market cap of $9M and $4M. 3 months ago, when Bitcoin was at its All-time-high, their market caps were at $113M and $32M respectively. In case, Bitcoin goes up to its ATH of $20,000 again, those 2 coins will go back to their ATH again, too. The thing is, altcoins behave the same as Bitcoin, only that they move at a much higher percentage than the big one, Bitcoin. For example, if Bitcoin goes up 30%, all small altcoins with a market cap under $10M, such as XSPEC, will go up by around 90%.
Privacy coins such as Monero are one of the most sought after cryptocurrencies currently and experts expect a big rise of privacy coins 2018. XSPEC and SUMO are very similar in technology to Monero, maybe even superior though their market cap is 100 times less, since they are less than 1 year old.
ODN, BNTY and SNOV are the small market cap coins with the biggest expected commercial use of the blockchain as a messenger (ODN), Bug-Bounty platform (BNTY), lead-generation (SNOV) and decentralized file storage (ECC). There already exists a file storage coin Siacoin at 20x the market cap of ECC without much reason for the big gap due to ECC's solid technology.
There are a also a few more very small cap coins that I considered, such as DNA in the medical field, and ELIX, though I found their potential less convincing than that of the above mentioned cryptocurrencies.

2. $15k into medium risk medium return (10x) coins, COSS, POE, PRL, DBC, ENJ.

COSS is the platform coin of the COSS crypto exchange. It is an exchange like Binance, but it is seen as one of the best small and innovative exchanges that currently exist. They will also release their mainnet in a few weeks, which will give them another boost.
DBC is one of the few cryptos that make use of artificial intelligence. They have a very strong team and are one of the few cryptos in the AI space.
ENJ, this is probably the coin with the most real-world usage of all cryptos. There are already a few gaming coins out there, such as FUN and MobileGo, however, ENJ is one of the few that real numbers behind them.
With more than 18 million users and 250,000 gaming-based communities, **Enjin* is among the world’s largest social gaming platforms. Recently, Enjin launched its cryptocurrency—Enjin coin—an Ethereum-based token to be used on a platform that allows for the development, distribution, organization, and trading of virtual goods.
As of 2 weeks ago, they closed a partnerships with one of the biggest games, Minecraft and will be used as a currency within Minecraft.
POE is a decentralized platform that allows publishers to license, identify, and monetize digital content such as blog posts, news articles, YouTube videos, audio/music, e-books and more. Here is a very good article about them. https://www.reddit.com/CryptoCurrency/comments/7oubqm/my_thoughts_on_poe_and_why_2018_could_be_big_fo
PRL is a very interesting one. It gives website owners the ability to generate revenue from their visitors without having to feature pushy advertising by storing encrypted data, but by mining PRL. https://www.reddit.com/CryptoCurrency/comments/7t4o95/oyster_prl_is_going_to_change_the_internet_heres/

3. $5K into low risk, low return (3x-10x) coins Bitcoin, Ether, Nano, VEN, IOTA, BNB.

Ok let's get to the juggernauts. If you are rather conservative, Bitcoin and Ethereum will make you a good profit in the coming years, maybe even 10x if you're lucky. However, if Bitcoin goes 10x, all smaller altcoins go 100x, so it is worth diversifying a little.
The thing is, Bitcoin's technology is very outdated. It cannot handle more than 20 transactions per second, it uses as much energy as a small country and with increased usage their fees will skyrocket again. This is the problem of 1st generation blockchains. Bitcoin cash has the same problem and while they can handle double as many transactions as Bitcoin due to their block size being twice as big, it's only a drop in the ocean, since they need to be able to handle 1000x as many transactions as now if they want to be used as a payment processor.
A good comparison to get an idea for transaction volume is VISA, which handles a couple of thousand transactions per second and is able to handle 60,000 transactions /second at peak times. A crypto payment processor needs to be as good as that. However, 60,000 transactions (tx)/second isn’t even a good benchmark. It’s the same as comparing the number of faxes sent with the number of emails sent. If you want to surpass old technology, you should go for 100x the amount of usage. More on that in the paragraph about IOTA.
I personally won't put anything in Bitcoin and Ether, because they are rather outdated cryptocurrencies now and they can only grow another 10x maximum within the next year or 2, while there are many other coins that can grow 100x or more within the same time frame.
Now we have VeChain, a supply chain cryptotechnology. VeChain is already very mature and it is the most popular and loved altcoin next to Nano. It is a safe bet.
Let’s get to IOTA. They have built a very exciting new technology. They are not using a blockchain, but a Tangle. It is a 3rd generation blockchain that has zero fees and instant transaction times. IOTA’s real world application is in IoT, Internet of Things. They are using their tangle to connect to and make transactions between millions of small devices, be it temperature regulator, heating, car, lights. Now you can see why a high transaction volume is so important, because these devices communicate multiple times every second with one another through these transactions. It is estimated that in 10 years time, 80 billion IoT devices will exist worldwide, which probably create 80 billion tx/second or more. IOTA is designed to do exactly that. Bitcoin can only do 10 tx/second. Currently, 8 billion IoT devices are connected to the internet.
However, IOTA has not been stress tested at this volume. It is not yet clear that transactions will remain instant at this volume, nor is it clear if the Internet of Things will ever take off. Maybe there will only be 500 million Internet of Things devices ever, this is not sure. However, IOTA has the biggest potential for me.
Let’s get to BNB. BNB has the same purpose as COSS. It is used on the Binance exchange to reduce your trading fees. That means, the value of BNB rises and falls with the success of Binance and Binance is now the second largest, most loved exchange. They currently process 10% of all crypto trades. Among the sea of scammy and unprofessional exchanges, Binance stands out as very professional, intelligent, fair, with excellent customer service. They will also soon release the first decentralized CryptoCurrency exchange in a month. I believe BNB will be among the top 10 cryptocurrencies within 1 year.
Let’s get to the final one Nano. It is my personal overall favourite. It is what Bitcoin always wanted to be, only a lot better. While Bitcoin is still struggling with high energy use, extremely low transaction volume and high fees upon increased usage, Nano has all that figured out already. Similar to IOTA, they are also a 3rd generation blockchain technology. They have zero fees, instant transactions and one millionth the energy usage of Bitcoin. Furthermore, they have been proven to work flawlessly while maintaining a 1000 tx/second volume. They are a payment processor.
Furthermore, it looks like Nano could replace BCH as a trading pair soon, since BCH trading pairs get little traffic, KuCoin has removed BCH trading pairs yesterday and there is already an exchange with that trades all of his currencies with Nano, called Nanex.
All in all, NANO and IOTA are on par for me while IOTA has more potential but also more risk, since it still has some security issues that haven’t been ironed out yet and they are somewhat reliant on the success of the Internet of Things. However, if the internet of things, really permeates our lives as described above, IOTA will replace Bitcoin and become the one most used cryptocurrency. Here is an excellent article about IOTA vs. Nano https://hackernoon.com/iota-vs-raiblocks-413679bb4c3e

Conclusion

Having said all this, if you believe that Bitcoin has now reached its full potential already and will never ever be worth more than now, don't invest in crypto anymore.
If you think that Bitcoin can potentially go to $20k again or to $40k or that cryptocurrencies will replace FIAT in 5 years, then you can look at 10x returns.
Many people fall victim to the cognitive bias of thinking Bitcoin is too risky, while the maximum risk is losing everything they invested, which can be $2,000. Sure, it is annoying to lose $2,000, but I put the possibility of Bitcoin never going to more than $7,500 at maybe 1%, while I put the likelhood of it going up to $20,000 or $30,000 at 60%. So, the odds are in your favor.
All in all, it's a large upside to a small downside. If you are very sceptical of Bitcoin, but you are looking to diversify your portfolio, $2,000 is a sane investment amount that yes, is annoying to lose, but won't change your life. If Bitcoin goes up again significantly, you will simply make a large amount of money. Small downside, large upside.
If you already have a significant amount of money in crypto, it's better to shift away from Bitcoin. Yes, you will probably make a 2x to 3x on Bitcoin as well, but you can make 50x from the best altcoins in the same time.
EDIT: I didn't include
There are several good coins in the top 100 still, Waves, Ziliqa, WTC, PIVX, Bat, REQ, ENG, SKY, LINK, though all of the high risk coins I mentioned do the same or have a bigger or equal potential as them 20x smaller market cap.
These top 100 coins aren't 20x better than the high risk coins, even if they were 5x times better, it would be better to invest in the high risk coins, because you would still make 4x more profit.
That's why the medium risk coins are only starting at number 133, 140 and 202. This makes them are undervalued for being the best utility coins currently.

Getting Started With the Tipbot FAST - A Guide for Non-Techy New Users!

Hello, and welcome to IOTA. *insert futuristic music here

You're probably here because you just received a tip. Congratulations. You must have done something wonderful. The tip you've received is a special type of crypto currency called 'IOTA.' IOTA was first created in 2015 when our founders realized that to really bring crypto to the masses (human and machine!) you need a way to safely send someone value or data without paying a fee, because even small fees can add up, and that fails to mimic real currency.

Enter IOTA.

The tip you received lives on reddit servers and is indexed and generated automatically using your username. You can withdraw this tip at anytime to your own private wallet. For a complete guide to the tipbot you can click here. Otherwise, let's continue.

If you'd like to tip someone on reddit. Format your tip inside of a comment like this:

+1000 iota iotatipbot

An 'Iota' is the lowest unit. If you really want to spend big you can give 1 million iota's (aka 'mega' iota) like this:

+1 miota iotatipbot

The tipbot will also reference the dollar value of your tip.

When you properly tip someone or receive a tip yourself you are given a list of links (these links can also be referenced on the sidebar of /iotatipbot). When you click those links it messages the bot to do that action. Just refresh your browser and then check your messages!

Ok let's cut to the chase. You're probably wondering. "How much money do I have!?"

Currently,
**1 miota is worth
$.55
$1.10
$3.85
if someone tipped you 10 miota you now have in your possession
$5.55
$11
$38.50
worth of IOTA. Play around with different amounts of IOTA and there values here. Did someone tip you 100 or a 1000 'iota'? Sorry, you have less that 1 penny.

So, there's a lot you can do with this new found wealth.

1.You can leave it in the bot and tip other users. If you tip less then $.01 in value the bot will send them the tip privately so out of courtesy we don't spam message threads.

2.You can withdraw your iota. This will require you to install a mobile/web/or desktop wallet. Since IOTA uses a different system then bitcoin the wallet will be a little different then a BTC wallet. Follow instructions carefully.

3.You can deposit to your reddit username wallet using the 'deposit' link. This is a little more complicated, especially if you don't own any crypto. You'll need to buy some ETH or BTC on an exchange with a bank transfer then send the ETH or BTC to one of our two participating exchanges Bitfinex and Binance. Hopefully in the near future we will have more ways to buy IOTA!

A few of you might be thinking:

"HEY BUDDY. I don't want to deal with any of this crap! I just want some cold hard cash!"

Ok, got it, no need to yell! Let's say someone tipped you a good amount and you want cash as quickly as possible. The best way to do that at this time is to open a Binance account, withdraw your IOTA directly to it, sell it for BTC, send the BTC to a mobile wallet and locate a BTC ATM near you. Finally, sell your BTC for cash at that ATM. You can also find real people to sell BTC to at meetups and localbitcoins.com. No ATM? Some exchanges allow bank transfers but this may be slower.

In the future we hope to have an Android/IOS wallet that you can convert your IOTA on the fly to BTC while you're driving to an ATM! Although, you might want to think twice about selling your IOTA, it may grow in value exponentially! Track it here.

Hope all this helped! If you're looking for more detailed help on how to set up a wallet, how to use exchanges, blockchain vs DAG, total supply, market cap, machines using IOTA (m2m) or the complete vision of IOTA. Check out the sidebar and stickied links on /iota.

Once again WELCOME!

edit 1: removed 'glorious'

edit 2: Bot is now private below $.01 value threshold.

edit 3: We also have a second tip bot functioning called 'tanglepayTipBot'
discussion thread
wiki
tip like this
tanglepay +$.05

Edit 4. Are you VERY new to crypto?

“Can someone explain to me how the token is going to be used... in general.”

FYI - I saw this question posted in the Alexa thread. Creating a separate post so it wasn’t buried.
My thoughts -
To start, I am just a community member. Please defer to the Po.et team for any official statements, plans or opinions; and what I am sharing may not represent the opinions of official Po.et. With that said, here’s how I see it…
First, POE (the Po.et ERC-20 token) is a “utility token” and not a security. So token holders are not “investors” and market cap (circulating token supply times the market price) doesn’t represent the “value of the company/organization" like it may in a stock market and publicly traded company. The “market cap/market value” is literally just the total market price of the circulating utility tokens and is not capped by some kind of expectation or tethered to the value of the company/organization. So if the token market cap is $1 billion, there shouldn’t be any sentiment along the lines of “Po.et is or is not a $1b company”, because the tokens don’t represent a portion of ownership or any value in the company.
But rather the market cap is $1b because that’s what supply and demand prove the supply of tokens are worth. The owners of these tokens may actually be able to use them for their “utility” at that cost, or they can speculate and exchange tokens in the market ultimately (and likely indirectly) selling to those that WILL USE THEM for their utility value.
I know it’s easy to identify so many other projects/companies where the tokens/use cases are just “hype” and there ultimately won’t be any real utility value.
How do we know the difference? I don’t know… but I’m a fan of Po.et because they are delivering a product and real use case functionality and avoiding the “hype-train”. I really like this old IBM commercial series… “Stop talking, start doing.” Here's the series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXZxYdg0IE4&list=PLA63B0369561BA83E&index=6 (Note: I'm not necessarily a fan of IBM, just this marketing campaign! Lol). So when we consider “Stop talking, start doing.” Po.et is “DOING”!
“Okay, so their tech/product is real and I can use it… but what about that darn token??!”
The Po.et white paper and follow-up blog posts share some clear plans for the token and its use cases and potential value/utility. For example, https://blog.po.et/poe-an-economic-tool-for-crowdsourcing-truth-3b085e4bf7cc outlines uses of the token and potential value in staking tokens to build marketplaces and publish content into a marketplace. Other articles suggest the token can be used and will have value in reputation systems, voting, curation, licensing and many other value propositions.
So many ask or say that the use of Po.et token seems to be “optional.” Well, yes, in the early production-ready Po.et API mainnet release (meaning TODAY), the first timestamping functions of text content do NOT REQUIRE the POE token. The Po.et organization seems to be “self-funding” the costs of the Bitcoin blockchain transaction. So today, I can timestamp my original text content to the Po.et network (and Bitcoin blockchain) at no cost to me (in either fiat or POE). Does that mean it will always be free and that the POE token will always be optional? Maybe, maybe not. My guess is that timestamping text content that meets reasonable storage size requirements will always be “free” but I can’t really be sure about that, of course.
But I like to consider this… the use of POE may be “optional” in the same way that BNB (Binance Coin) is “optional”. Do I need BNB to perform the basic use cases of the Binance Exchange? No. But does it make sense to own and use BNB? Absolutely, YES. Using BNB for my trades provides a significant discount on trading fees. And “staking” BNB compounds the discounts even more.
So, in my opinion, the use of POE may be optional for timestamping simple text content to the Po.et Network and Bitcoin blockchain. But there will be many “value add” use cases for the token…
Maybe “free” timestamping is limited to a maximum number of claims per user, or rate limited to X per day, or limited to a total maximum storage size per user. Where then, additional use requires the use of POE tokens.
Maybe registering simple text content if free, but multimedia (audio and video) file types require POE (there’s a lot required to provide enterprise or global scale for storage of audio and video data).
Maybe enterprises, publishing empires, social media or any type of business that has high-scalability, high-availability requirements pay or stake POE to have a direct integration/data pipeline to make millions of claims per day or something (out of band of the consumer API).
And of course, as mentioned, creating a marketplace, publishing content within a marketplace, joining a marketplace and licensing content from a marketplace may require POE. This is where POE begins to flow! Content creators/publishers are acquiring POE (i.e. making money) from creating marketplaces and/or licensing their original creative works (articles, photos, music, videos, etc.).
So in my eyes, I believe the POE token will have many valuable use cases. Some are clearly stated in the whitepaper and official Po.et blogs. Some are my speculation and rationale/sense-making. I think the bootstrapping a user base is VERY HARD and I’m glad Po.et went with not-requiring POE to utilize the basic text content timestamping (Proof of Existence - PoE) functionality to encourage use and adoption. But, I’m sure they don’t have unlimited BTC to fund these transactions, so I’m confident actual implementation of POE token use cases are on the near-term horizon. And when they come to life, the POE will flow.
I’d love for this to be the start of a conversation and we can learn from each others' perspectives. Please reply with your thoughts, agreements, corrections, rebuttals. :)
Cheers!
